After hearing of all those people who couoldn't get the sidebar to work in XP, here are the instructions, it took me 40 mins to remeber and write out, the instrcutions are extactly what I did, tell me if it works, I have included many alternites if one step fails.

Note: When you reach the step whee you have to create a varible, where it says:

Varible Value: %VAIO%

Don't type %VAIO% use C:\VAIO (Where C is your Windows XP hard drive) Finally, another thing to consider is at the bottom of this topic and could help you alot big_smile.png

why not post a patched sidebar with all the optional gadgets available so it would be easy to install this vista sidebar for beginners like me? just a suggestion.......

one quick correction... i think:

QUOTE
Variable name: VAIO
Variable Value: %VAIO%
should be:
QUOTE
Variable name: VAIO
Variable Value: C:\VAIO

also, on step 5 i get an error:

Error Loading .\vslc.dll
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

It can also be %VAIO% I think, but yeah, do C:\VAIO anyway! First post edited. With your error, is vslc.dll in C:\VAIO? If not here is vslc from my one, drag it into C:\VAIO and C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar, note you may have to copy the eniter contence of C:\VAIO into the sidebar diectory.

Note, if you get a error similer to this with regsvr32.exe, when working with sbdrop.dll and wlsrvc.dll.

CODE
LoadLibary("C:\Program Files\WindowsSidebar\sbdrop.dll") failed - The specified procedure coud not be found.

This happend to me, just carry on and near the end there is a process near the end.

QUOTE
Download this and extract the contents and run the .exe file within, after it loads up browse to the Windows Sidebar directory and open up sbdrop.dll and save it as sbdrop.*** (*** meaning whatever it assigns it to) in C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar and do that same for wlsrvc.dll, finally re-launch sidebar.exe and I damn hope it works!

On the homepage, when it says this step, the 'this' word is not hyperlinked, but it is above, while you open the .dll with the program linked above, you WILL get an error, but don't worry, happend to me and still worked.

Doesn´t work on my german xp pro. I followed your instructions very carefully, but when it comes to 8.) the execution failed. And when i click right on sidebar.exe there is no "Patch......"-entry. I´m totally confused. Sidebarversion is 5536.
Any help? unhappy.png

If you read the instrucions even more carefully, the minium sidebar version required is RC1 (5600) I used RC2 (5744), that might be causing your problem. You can download RTM sidebar from our download section here RTM version has the same code so nothing is differnent in the instructions I assunme.

Double click the regtlib.exe file and see if it comes up with an option to do it after a reboot big_smile.png And try the RC2 sidebar as I did!

K, it worked. But not because of that.

1. I forgot to save the VAIO value (stupid me)...
2. I accidently skipped a step. XD

Anyways, the sidebar is pwnsome. I'm getting more gadgets for it right now....
